Belfast Design Week is a grassroots, industry-led festival featuring a week-long series of events and activities that seeks to promote and celebrate Northern Ireland’s design heritage and contemporary design scene.



At Belfast Design Week, we are incredibly fortunate to have a group of great local designers and design enthusiasts volunteering their personal time and efforts to put on the events and projects each year.  We are also supported by local individuals and organisations keen on promoting design and Northern Ireland through sponsorship, volunteering, venues, food/drink and fringe events. 

Our core team for Belfast Design Week 2017 is:


Christine James 

Christine is founder and manager of Blick Studios which provides space to inspire, support and encourage digital and creative start ups across 4 locations in Northern Ireland in Belfast and Derry~Londonderry. Blick provides workspace, event and meeting facilities, business services and networking and collaborative opportunities for creative and digital start ups.


Karishma Kusurkar

Karishma is a designer, collaborator, entrepreneur, lover of all things creative, avid podcast-listener and postcard enthusiast.  She has been designing for over a decade on freelance work, for clients and on collaborative projects.  Having studied in Belfast & London, Karishma has gone on to work on multidisciplinary projects across the film, fashion and print industries.  Karishma is passionate about putting Belfast on the international map of the Design world and making it a must-visit destination for all things Design related. &


Catherine McGinnis

Catherine is the co—owner of Maven, a homewares and furniture store in Belfast. Based just off the Lisburn Road, Maven champions the very best of design from both established and emerging home ware brands.  Run by sisters Catherine and Patricia, Maven is nestled in the beautiful Reid Memorial Hall, a former meeting hall, and sells coveted Scandinavian brands such as Hay, Muuto, Marimekko and Ferm Living which sit alongside Irish designer-makers such as Derek Wilson Ceramics and Superfolk.


April Luong

April is a bright and enthusiastic product designer with an innovative eye for detail. After completing her undergraduate degree in Creative Product Design Technology at Bristol UWE she has returned home to N.I. Currently she is the senior in-house designer based in Belfast specialising in high-end interior surface finishes. April joined Belfast Design Week to connect with local creatives and to help flourish Belfast's design scene. Being passionate about collaborative and thought-provoking projects she plans to contribute through smart branding and sustainable design. April hopes to learn and grow as a multi-disciplinary designer. Jessica Fok

Outside of her career as a PR and communications executive, Jess is creative director and image co-ordinator for design brands and entrepreneurs.  She has been curating the stories of NI designers since 2012, across a range of mediums including blogs, social media campaigns, editorial and public showcases. Jess joined Belfast Design Week in 2016 to facilitate the festival’s fashion events and will be co-ordinating the PR-dimension of the 2017 series.  Jessica can be found on Instagram @f.o.k


Elizabeth Meehan

Elizabeth trained in Milan as a Service Designer and is running the first Service Design consultancy and clinic in Belfast. She strives to educate businesses about the changing economy and the new challenges this brings, as markets become more difficult to isolate and customer needs are increasingly complex. She regards design as the way forward to problem solve issues for both business and society, and with a background in Sociology she understands the importance and place of the human element in todays solutions. One of her great joys is her role as in-house designer for the theatre company, Accidental.


Ronan Lunney

Ronan is a designer and the director of Two Digs. Two Digs is an independent graphic design studio based in Belfast. They focus on creating print and digital design across many sectors for businesses big and small.  Working with their clients they use fresh, clear and creative approaches to provide direct and effective communication. Their attention to detail ensures that their work stands out, allowing our clients to confidently build their brand and define their unique identity.



UsFolk is a creative design studio and illustration agency based in Belfast.
