DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: GORDON DONALDSON X BELFAST DESIGN WEEK

Since completing his course at Belfast Metropolitan College, former fashion student Gordon Donaldson has become one of Northern Ireland’s most recognisable names in the industry. A disciple of some of NI’s best designers including Lizzie Agnew and Una Rodden, Gordon has progressed to produce his own medley of ready-to-wear, millinery and bespoke occasion pieces.

Marked early on in his career as one to watch, Gordon has already bagged a number of accolades including Wedding Journal’s Designer of the Year 2012 and Diet Coke’s Young Designer of the Year 2014.

Inspired by the female silhouette, Gordon’s signature designs blend wearability with elegant finishing touches. The versatility of his line permits the wearer the pleasure of re-wearing their pieces, each time offering a slightly different style. Gordon’s forte lies in his ability to create parallels between minimalism and decadence, by manipulating shaping, subtle embroidery and lace.

The prettiness and femininity of Gordon’s brand has made it the perfect runway partner with posies from Best Buds Belfast. As good an accessory as any, these floral arrangements from this local independent show us how easy it is to fall in love with flowers in Fall.

No stranger to the limelight, Gordon has presented his collections at top local fashion shows including Belfast Fashion Week, and more recently the North Coast’s Cirque sensation. With all this in his history, Designed By. will be in good company in Gordon’s portfolio.

Gordon’s collections are available to peruse and purchase in Holly Boutique Kilkeel, Grainne Maher’s The Vault, and directly from the designer here
