SESSION #1 - FASHION

Join us at #BDW17 as we run a special workshop on how to prepare yourself and your work for the fashion industry and to help you get the type of job you desire. SIOFRA CAHERTY of Jump The Hedges
Síofra Caherty is founder of multidisciplinary design studio Jump The Hedges. Jump The Hedges focuses on sustainability, functionality and local manufacturing. Siofra has experience working in luxury fashion in New York, designing wearable technology on Ireland's West coast and designing performance clothing for Adidas in Germany. Síofra's creative identity has evolved due to a constant pursuit of innovative design and an addiction to solving problems. A recipient of the Design and Craft Council of Ireland Future Maker Awards in both 2015 and 2016, Síofra currently has work on display as part of the Shape The Future exhibition in NCAD in Dublin. Shape The Future is a curated exhibition of some of the most up and coming designer makers to have won Future Maker awards.

CHRIS MURPHY - UX & Multidisciplinary Design - Monographic, Tiny Books
Christopher Murphy is a writer, designer and educator based in Belfast. Adrian Shaughnessy, writing for Creative Review, described him as, “a William Morris for the digital age,” an epithet he aspires to fulfil, daily. The author of numerous books, he has written for a wide variety of publications worldwide, including: Five Simple Steps, Offscreen, 8 Faces and The Manual; in addition to publishing the world’s most compact typography journal, Glyph, one of the inaugural publications approved for BERG’s Little Printer. For five years, he was one half of tweed-clad duo, The Standardises. Informing his role as an educator, Christopher is a practicing designer whose work spans a variety of media, both analogue and digital.
He is a co-founder of Get Invited, a platform for beautiful, social, event registration and ticketing. His work has also featured in numerous magazines and books including Eye Magazine, widely acknowledged as one of the world’s leading design journals. An internationally respected speaker, he is regularly invited to talk on a range of topics, including: the importance of improving design education; exploring how design is changing in a connected world; and the importance of growing ‘ideas cultures’. He has spoken at conferences worldwide, including: Build, New Adventures and on the topic of mental health in the technology sector, at Brooklyn Beta. Christopher also recently organised and ran Break, an international design conference that “Questioned the edges of design.”
STEPHEN MCGILLOWAY - Product / Industrial Design - Big Small Design
Product / Industrial Designer based in N. Ireland with 18 years' experience in industry, research and academic environments. Established bigsmall in 2012 and has grown the company to have a cross-sectoral client base (i.e. Consumer Goods; Medical; Scientific and IOT Devices), working with high-growth pre-enterprise start-ups to established multi-nationals. Stephen's practice focusses on cutting the distance between ideas and manufactured objects.
TERRY CORR - TV & Advertising Design- Navigator Blue
With over 25 years’ experience of building brands and businesses, Terry reaches audiences via the best platform or media mix, from offline toonline, across digital and social, via TV, outdoor, press, print and radio.Having helped to found, establish and grow Navigator Blue back in 1990, his experience spans every business type, from public to private, and in every sector.He is experienced in activating and engaging audiences in the most affordable way, developing the idea and guiding its most effective execution. Whether that’s in finance, retail, health or creating campaigns for social change.
BENJAMIN DONOGHUE - Games Design & Animation - Blackstaff Games
Blackstaff Games are a games and animation company based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, specialising in original characters and stories. Established in 2014, Blackstaff Games first created DogBiscuit, a creative drawing exploration game aimed at a younger audience. The game was released through Tivola on tablet and mobile in December 2015 and has gone on to receive nominations from the children's TOMMI Awards and the Develop Awards for best new mobile IP. Blackstaff Games are currently working on a number of upcoming titles which will be announced later this year.
IAN BENNINGTON - Graphic Design - Part Two Design

Ian was founding partner of Triplicate Design Limited in 1982 when he decided to form his own business immediately on leaving Belfast College of Art. As Managing Director, he grew Triplicate to become one of Ireland’s leading design and marketing consultancies.
He demerged that practice in Dec 2013 and formed Part Two Design Limited in January 2014 and this smaller, highly specialised branding consultancy, operates from the stunning and historically significant Meter House in Belfast Gasworks.
He has 35 years experience of managing a design practice and of conceiving and directing branding and marketing strategies for large companies as well as SMEs.

Ian provides business mentoring to young people for the Prince’s Trust and SMEs for Business In The Community. Throughout his career he has lectured for Ulster University, LEDU, IDB, Invest NI, SRC and many others.
