A Hand In Nature

  • CRAFT NI 119 Royal Avenue Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT1 1FF United Kingdom (map)

Through use of materials, design aesthetic, function or underlying narrative, the works featured in this exhibition tell a story about the ecological and cultural impact of their development. Silversmith Eva Lynch coined the term 'Anthropoware' to describe objects that are designed to remind us of our inextricable connection to the natural world. Alongside Lynch, eight other prominent makers will take part in this special event with works that resonate with this theme: Stuart Cairns, Eimear Conyard, Clodagh Molloy, Cecilia Moore, Cara Murphy, Cóilín Ó Dubhghaill, Angela O Kelly and Sandra Wilson.

Award winning contemporary silversmith Cara Murphy, who is based in Northern Ireland, takes part in the exhibition with a piece inspired by the Irish landscape: her silver and walnut centrepiece 'Undergrowth' invites interaction and personal arrangement of it’s moveable candles and silver grasses that appears to ‘grow’ from the table bringing the beauty of our natural world to the centre of the home.

The exhibition runs at Craft NI Gallery until June 26th.
